A 21 gun, explosive shot salute
Too Many Annas —
BRK -
I’ve credited you with the reason I have a blog at all, and with the reason I have been able to resume playing my hunter. Both creditable things, really, not to mention the amazing community you have here and all the service that you’ve done for hunters and WoW. Your hunter guide movies and excellent posts will still be where I turn for little-hunter advice.
That said, I think of anything you’ve posted so far, this post is by far the most creditable. I’ll miss reading your posts, certainly, but your family is so much more important. So Grats ...
They're Dropping Like Flies
Eye for an Eye —
First Phae, now BRK. If Matticus or BBB proclaim today that they're quitting blogging, I'm going to cry foul and say this is some elaborate April Fool's hoax. If it's true, the strongest voices of both druids and hunters in the community have fallen silent within a month of each other. Playing WoW at a high level and blogging about it while simultaneously juggling a personal life (in real life as opposed to Azeroth) and holding down a full-time job is not without complications. I respect and admire both Phae and BRK for doing both seemingly so ...
BRK taking a break from World of Warcraft
WoW.com —
... Our good friend and colleague Daniel "BigRedKitty" Howell has announced on his blog that he is taking a break from World of Warcraft. He's taking time off of the game and his blog to, as he says, "rededicate myself to my family." He thanks readers for their attention and kind words, and hopes that everyone will understand his decision, as well as examine their own lives to make sure that they focus on what's most important to them. ...
And you thought 3.0.8 was the biggest hit to BM Hunters!
Mend Pet —
... The biggest thing to hurt the BM hunter community just happened - Daniel Howell (BigRedKitty) has decided to remove himself from the blogging and the playing and all that to focus on what really matters - family. There really is no better reason to move on, and it’s great to see a father wanted to take a more active role in his child’s life. ...
BRK’s Farewell
Mania's Arcania —
Today Big Red Kitty announced his (temporary?) retirement from WoW as he rededicates himself to his family.
Hunter Darkwood, from my own home server of Farstriders, has posted on the WoW Suggestion forum:
And I would like to suggest that Blizzard honor him somehow. Maybe a rare tameable Red Kitty somewhere. Or a non-combat pet (red kitty of course) but if you can’t do that then just give us a Dwarf Hunter roaming around IF saying things like “fo’ shizzle” and asking for a rasberry Latte.

BRK Leaves WoW for Family
The Hunting Lodge —
There’s really not much to say really. Daniel Howell, aka BigRedKitty, is calling it quits in favor of family. (post)
So in a solemn tribute I will only say we are sadden by this sudden announcement, but at the same time see our hearts lighten anytime somone steps up and admits when they feel they’ve been wrong.
Daniel, as I stated over on BRK, I solute you and support your decision.
I encourage everyone to give your support, prayers, and Hunter Love by dropping over and adding a comment to BRK’s ...
This isn’t about what you think it’s about
Big Bear Butt Blogger —
... I bet you all think I’m about to talk about BRK announcing he’s going to suspend the blogging (and perhaps the WoW as well) to refocus on spending time with his family and providing his love and support for his most cherished redhead wife and their son. ...
BRK will not be BRB?
Armaggedon's coming —
... Gnomeaggedon: What? Hunh? Did you hear the news, BRK has left the building!
Brain: What do you care, you are a Mage writing Mage Blog
Gnomeaggedon: Yeah, but this is BRK!
Brain: /Scoff. You don’t even have a Hunter!
Gnomeaggedon: Yes I do, Snowdabow was my first toon!
Brain: Much loved too. When was the last time you played him? ...
Big Red You Know Who
Out of Mana —
... This post is about you know who because you know who has announced something very recently. I would've responded to this announcement earlier, but unfortunately I've had little time because of work. ...
A Mixed Bag of Metaphors Springing Out Everywhere
Destructive Reach —
... Now, BRK has hung up his Nessingwary and stabled Hobbes. I can not fault the reasons for which he left blogging, as family is perhaps the most important thing in one’s life. I’d like to direct your attention to a key part of what he said ...
Farewell to the BigRedKitty
Spicytuna —
... has announced that he will be making an exit from WoW and Blogging. And like many bloggers have done already, I feel the need to say good bye to BRK as well. Because also like many bloggers, BRK was the reason that got us to start blogging in the first place. Personally, without BRK, this blog would have never existed. ...
One The Hardest Things About Playing WoW..
Ardent Defender —
... /Salute BRK of BigRedKitty. I can say I totally understand. I know just whats it like as well and its not a easy choice. Wish you well and hope you come back much stronger! ...
Salute to BRK
Honor's Code —
BigRedKitty has called it quits on WoW and Blogging and after reading his goodbye post, I agree with his decision 1000%. All of us have to be cognisant of the place WoW holds in our lives and we need to maintain a balance. My Dad always made an analogy to juggling balls. The more things you add to your life, the harder it is to juggle all those balls. Eventually, BRK decided that he had to let the WoW and Blog 'balls' drop, so he could keep other balls like his marriage and his children spinning. If I ever got the impression my WoW time, or Blogging ...
Happy Hunting BRK
Killing 'em Slowly —
I have a guest post scheduled to come up in an hour, but I wanted to make a small little note about the whole BRK thing. I'm still small but growing a decent rate and being as huge as a BRK sort of scares me. I like my little corner of the world with nice commenters (many of which I know in-game). It's safe. At the same time, it's rewarding to have people respond to your writing. I think the challenge then is to remember that this is a hobby and not a job. We all pretty much gravitated here because of similar loves of writing and sharing ideas. That's what it's all ...
Of Parting, and Family
Send Pet —
31Mar09 10:15 CST Goodbye BRK. /cry Every family man with enough kid in him to play the craft has run into the WoW vs. Family dilemma. Having a 'Redheaded Maelstrom' of a wife myself, I think I identify with BRK's situation more than most. I missed two days of raiding this last weekend, to do things for my family, missing a chance to loot the Envoy of Mortality from KT, and be in on the guild first kill of Maly 25. Did it bother me? Oh hell yes. But you take a deep breath, and move on. When in ...
For everything there is a season
Tree of Life —
The blog world took another big hit yesterday when BRK announced he is leaving or at least taking a break from the WOW world. First Phaelia a month ago, now BRK. When Phaelia announced that she was stepping away, I did a silly little post.
This time I'll get a bit more serious (whoa!). First, I think the title of my post and the four seasoned tree above (OMG how beautiful, huh?) reflects my view on this. For everything, there is a season... even for WOW. So which WOW season am I in? Anyways, I think its always good to do a check on where you ...

... Balancing Real Life and World of Warcraft: A Joint Blog by Slig and Sy
With all of the awesome bloggers calling it quits these days, we at 4theHorde decided that we needed to say something. We aren’t doing this to bash on anyone, or to put someone down for their choice of lifestyle, but rather to add our perspective into the mix. Two of the five bloggers at 4theHorde are happily married individuals, but not to each other mind you! Over the next few paragraphs we are going to give you an inside glimpse in the lives of two crazy bloggers, ...
Thanks for the Good Times Everyone, Time to Move On
Critical QQ —
... I considered doing one of those “I’m leaving WoW now, see ya!” type posts as a joke for April Fool’s day, but in light of recent events that probably wouldn’t be received too well. Even if I went all out and cited the lack of in-game bacon as the primary reason for me quitting. ...
An Item for BRK
The Incredible Noobiewan —

Blizzards New Policy on Addons - a Shared Topic.
Pugnacious Priest's Warcraft Blog —
... I have been slack in my Shared topics, but it was ActuallyBRK’s farewell that prompted me to write something on Blizzards new Policy on Add ons
Why was the loss of another great blogger my inspiration.
Wow /Life/Work balance - and this is relevant to add on developers because they put real time into writing and maintaining a add on, for the most for free. - as do bloggers.
The Joker said in the Dark Knight “If you’re good at something, never do it for free.” But what happens if what you do isn’t your own ...

Duct Tape and a Prayer —
... In no particular order, my favorite posts from the WOW blogosphere this week. But first, a special mention: my guildie, Dan Howell - otherwise known as BigRedKitty - is retiring from World of Warcraft and WOW blogging to spend more time with his family. Good luck and godspeed, Dan. ...
Real Life Sucks >.< On the bright site, we’re hiring *cheer*
WoW Fail Blog —
... Now, we’ve all seen what happens when life and real life fight it out (see: BRK), and I don’t want things to come to that. Mainly because that would suck. A lot. So, where does this lead me? Basically, I’ve got 2 options: ...
Phoenix Reborn?
Altitis —
... Real life, that’s what happened. While I don’t want to dwell on things too much (or turn this into a “fishing for sympathy” post), I went through a situation not unlike what Big Red Kitty went through. Oh, the circumstances were different, and WoW was a mere symptom of what had gone wrong in my life, but the background is similar. ...
Save the Best
For the Horde —
... I had a Paladin that I’d levelled to 64 and never ended up getting back to. After Brak hit 80, I pulled Juris out and quickly rocked through to level cap, getting my second character to 80. After that I levelled a Rogue that I had at mid level (can’t remember when I got him there) up and he made it to 73, where he is now. After that, I took my hunter back out, levelled him to 80 and decided that I’m no longer a hunter. It was a sad day. It was almost as sad as the day the music died. Can’t remember when it was, but after having done 200 arena ...
