You Have Freedom

... to do against your will.
In other words, you play this game however you want and even though you follow the flag of your guild leader, that guild leader cannot control you. What us guild leaders can do is try to influence you into doing what we want you to do. But in the end, the choice will always be yours.
In my guild, you can do anything.
You can respec from a healer to a DPS position. You can skip out on a raid. You can even take a long hiatus.
The question that remains is how I react to these ...
Gearing up oneself or one's guild?
Tobold's MMORPG Blog —
Gevlon, the Greedy Goblin, is the most selfish blogger I know. And I mean that in a completely non-judgemental way. His unique philosophical outlook makes his blog posts interesting, especially when they clash with somebody else's blog. So while Matticus is complaining about a paladin who stopped raiding because he had enough gear for himself, instead of helping the rest of the guild gear up, ...
5 Mistaken Beliefs of Raiding Guilds
World of Matticus —
The comments from Wednesday’s post drew a consensus where everyone called for a Gkick. As some readers observed, it’s not exactly going to win the Emmy for Best Drama of the year.
On the other hand, the fact that a Paladin on break is the best I can offer in terms of drama should say something about myself and the organization.
Please understand that I wrote that post to inform and let readers know that no guild is impervious. I did this to inform. I didn’t mean for it to come out as a rant (because there’s far worse things in life then a ...
Bribe vs Reward
Amava Knows Aggro —
Matticus wrote about a Conquest guild member, Wayne, who got geared up very quickly and then decided to put his raiding on hold until the next raid dungeon, Ulduar, is released. Summary of the Article: Wayne's decision puts the guild in a tough spot, and also may cause Wayne difficulty when he chooses to return. There are social consequences to the decision. Greedy Goblin wrote up his thoughts on the subject. Summary of the Article: Wayne's decision puts the guild in a tough spot, but Wayne will have no difficulty getting what he wants when he chooses to return due to ease of finding a new guild for well geared, good player. Player acting correctly like ...

... and that was one of the reasons why he didn’t feel any motivation to keep running Naxx. He wrote a small note about it to his guild leader, and this letter ended up engaging not only his guild, but thousands of WoW-players all over the world. (Which probably didn’t come as a complete surprise to him – after all he should know that his GL was blogger at heart and this was definitely blogging material.) There are currently three major posts discussing The Case of the Paladin: World of Matticus, Greedy Goblin and Tobold’s, and each one of them has caused a ...
For the good of the guild
Life in Azeroth —
Quite often you read a blog and get ideas for what you want to talk about on your own. This happened with Tobold's blog which lead me to Matticus' blog which lead me to the Greedy Goblin's blog and back here. Apparently Matticus is a guild leader faced with a raid member who decides he wants to take a break until Ulduar (the next raid after Naxxramas) because he has all the gear he needs and doesn't want to burn out. I can side with both Matticus and the paladin to some extent. In the guild I joined with the release of Wrath, I've seen players ...

... would have their first ilvl 226 items on the second week. The realm seconds-thirds would get siege and antechamber on farm by January. This would be a huge attraction force to the core players of social raiding guilds to either gquit or demand performance from the members. Without Ulduar there was no such thing. Everyone got their T7.5, the only difference was pace. They could say: "If I'd gquit, I'd get it faster, and would have nothing to do until Ulduar". Remember the paladin of Matticus! ...
